Stardom, Smiles, Sugar & Strength
A Calendar of Portraits of Marilyn Monroe
Four exclusive limited edition giclée prints – from Jen Allen
Artist Statement
Born in June under the sign of Gemini, Marilyn Monroe embodied contrast and creativity, qualities that defined both her art and her life. This month, as we mark her birth, I’m reflecting on the woman behind the icon.
Seventy years ago, she made a bold and ground-breaking move: founding Marilyn Monroe Productions and becoming one of the first women in Hollywood to claim artistic control over her image and career. It was an act of independence and vision – and that’s why she continues to fascinate me.
I’ve painted Marilyn many times, not just as a symbol, but as a woman full of contrasts: vulnerable and powerful, playful and profound.
She remains one of the most visually dynamic and emotionally layered subjects I’ve ever painted.
In this series, I’ve chosen four of my favourite portraits, each one reflecting a different side of her spirit and symbolically tied to a season.
Like the passing year, these portraits trace the shifts in Marilyn’s persona: from playful bloom to fierce confidence, luminous fame to quiet introspection. Together, they form a portrait of a woman who was charming, enduring, enigmatic and always compelling.
Introducing the four portraits:
SPRING
‘Sugar Coated’
Sweetness with a knowing smile.
Charming, coquettish, and utterly magnetic, ‘Sugar Coated’ celebrates the playful persona that Marilyn so often embodied. Her signature sweep of platinum hair, heavy lashes, and iconic beauty spot are rendered with a stylised flair that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. Like spring itself, this portrait captures the sense of newness, lightness, and the promise of more beneath the surface.

SUMMER
‘To Have Your Heart’
Fierce femininity in full bloom.
This is Marilyn turned all the way up. Bold, confident, and ablaze with aura, ‘To Have Your Heart’ is a portrait of power and allure. The soft pastel tones explode around her like emotional fireworks, radiating the warmth, energy and magnetic freedom of high summer. It’s a celebration of the icon in full command of her image, her spirit, and her space.

AUTUMN
‘I’m Not Interested in Money’
Glamour. Chaos. Stardom.
This portrait captures Marilyn Monroe at her most iconic, draped in Hollywood glamour, lit from within. Surrounded by a whirlwind of technicolour, the chaos of fame swirls around her like falling leaves, yet she remains poised and luminous. The title nods to her famous words: “I’m not interested in money. I just want to be wonderful.” This is the season of golden light and transformation – perfect for a woman who knew how to navigate the spotlight with grace.

WINTER
‘Imperfection Is Beauty’
The woman beneath the icon.
A softer, quieter Marilyn shines through in this black-and-white portrait. With a genuine smile and a warm twinkle in her eye, we glimpse something truer – more Norma Jeane than Monroe. Like winter, it’s stripped back, reflective and intimate. The absence of colour lets her natural beauty take centre stage, open and real. Titled after her quote, “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius,” this piece feels like a private moment with the woman behind the myth.
